During the course of the summer, my friend Mandy and I have tried to play the video game Fireboy and Watergirl on a weekly basis. Every time, we go through the same motions: we sit down on the couch, one of us holds the screen open on the other's lap, and we play video games until the underside of the computer gets warm. This entire ritual has evolved into a moment for us to escape from the plague and the monotony of the summer by immersing ourselves in a world of our own creation.
